strange rash...

Post  ~Stephanie~ on Fri Nov 21, 2008 12:55 pm

Charlotte has developed a strange rash. It is mostly on her lower face and her chest. It almost looks like heat rash...tiny red, raised bumps. It is cold here so I know it isn't heat rash LOL. At first I thought it was baby acne because it came on about the same time that she started breaking out with that. The baby acne is almost all cleared up, but the rash is still there.

She is exclusively breastfed so I wonder if she has a sensitivity to something I am eating. Would it show up in a rash like that? My other thought it maybe it's our detergent. But I wonder why it would be on her face and chest only.

Anyone have experience with this kind of rash? It doesn't seem to bother her in any way.

I am new to the game, so definitely not an expert. I remember reading last night that dairy can trigger baby eczema in bf babies. It was either in The Baby Book or First Kicks to First Steps (read from both of those yesterday).

Calla had some eczema at her last ped appt and the doc only recommended that I use a fragrance-free wash (and not to wash too often).

Hope your LO is better soon!

could it be something you or your dh is wearing?? lotion, perfume?? Chances are when you snuggle her you are up againstg her face and chest most.

Or any soaps or lotions you are using on her.

Does she sleep on her tummy? Nora got a similar bumpiness on her chin and cheeks, and we think it's because she sleeps on her tummy. She's always rubbing her face on the blanket or on us (whoever she is laying on).

I think I solved the mystery. I was taking antibiotics for an abscessed tooth and now that I have stopped those, the rash seems to be clearing. I hope that was the cause!

I had that happen with my DD - I was taking antibiotics for the same reason and since she was still nursing she got a rash. I stopped for a day and started up again, and the rash cleared up before my course of medication was over and it never returned. Rashes are crazy things!

I had a rash like that when I was a baby and it turned out to be Fifth Disease. I don't know a lot about it but I remember my Mom said it looked like a heat rash. Hope you can find out the cause and get it healed quickly!

Bowen has had this same rash on and off for weeks. I'm pretty sure it's food sensitivity but I can't figure out to what.
